Most people know Santino Marella as the guy with the Cobra, the accidental champion, one of the funniest characters WWE ever produced. What they might not know is that for a while he was done. Body broken down, career behind him, content running his academy and being a civilian. Then TNA called and something shifted. Efrain from KYW sat down with Santino to find out what that actually looks like from the inside.
The conversation starts where you wouldn’t expect, with red light therapy, PEMF mats, stem cells, and a jiu-jitsu world championship he won a few weeks before this conversation. Santino won without giving up a single point. At 51. The body that wrestling wore down has been rebuilt and he is using that second chance with intention. He has title goals. He is not filling time.
He also gets into the real origin story behind the Italy crowd moment, one of the most famous debuts in WWE history — and what it was actually like being pulled from developmental and flown overseas the next day. The answer is not what most fans assume.
What comes through strongest is the balance he is trying to hold right now. Young kids at home, a sprawling academy with amateur wrestling, jiu-jitsu, boxing, and pro wrestling all under one roof, a producer role in TNA on top of performing. He does not pretend it is easy. He calls his wife his super wife and means it.
The Cobra comes up. Of course it does. And his answer on who in TNA would catch it is exactly what you would expect from Santino, confident, funny, and somehow completely believable.
