El Hijo del Vikingo is getting a championship opportunity at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30th, and it was made official in the most AAA way possible — through a backstage segment on the May 2nd episode of Lucha Libre AAA on FOX.
Dorian Roldán pulled Vikingo aside and personally told him he’d be competing for a title at the event. That title belongs to El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., who currently holds the Latin American Championship.
Vikingo challenging for the Latin American title is a big deal. This is one of AAA’s marquee championships and Wagner Jr. is a legitimate name in lucha libre. His father, Dr. Wagner Jr., is an icon. The son has been carrying that legacy and holding gold makes that lineage feel real.
And Vikingo is Vikingo. If you’ve watched any AAA in the last few years, you already know what he does in the ring is genuinely unreal. The guy pulls off moves that shouldn’t be physically possible and does it consistently. He’s been one of AAA’s most exciting performers for a while now and a title program gives him something meaningful to build around heading into the summer.
Noche de Los Grandes is shaping up to be a stacked show. Adding a Latin American title match with these two names is exactly the kind of thing that gets lucha fans locked in. Vikingo’s aerial offense against Wagner Jr.’s more traditional heavyweight style is a natural matchup with built-in contrast.
The segment also featured Omos, which is worth tracking just to see where that storyline thread goes. Omos in AAA has been an interesting experiment and his presence in this backstage moment alongside Roldán and Vikingo suggests he’s still going to be woven into the bigger picture heading into May 30th.
AAA Noche de Los Grandes goes down on May 30th. Vikingo versus El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. for the Latin American Championship is now officially on the card. That match alone gives you a reason to pay attention to the show.
