Marty Jannetty Has Foot Amputated

Marty Jannetty has had his foot amputated. That news came out through a radio appearance by Eddy Mansfield, a longtime friend of Jannetty’s, on the Monte & The Pharaoh show.

“One of my dearest friends ever on the face of this earth, and was a great wrestler, had his foot amputated, his name is the Rocker Marty Jannetty,” Mansfield said on the show.

No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the amputation have been confirmed at this time. The news has understandably hit the wrestling community hard.

Jannetty, now in his late 60s, is best known for his run in WWE as one half of The Rockers alongside Shawn Michaels. That team is genuinely one of the most beloved tag teams in wrestling history. The chemistry those two had was undeniable, and their matches from that era still hold up.

The moment most fans know Jannetty from is the infamous Barbershop window segment in 1992, where Michaels turned on him and superkicked him through the plate glass. It launched HBK into superstardom. Jannetty got his singles push too, even winning the Intercontinental Championship in 1993, but it was a run that never fully reached the heights many thought it could.

He had multiple stints in WWE through the years, with his most recent stretches being largely sporadic appearances. Outside the ring, Jannetty has dealt with very public personal struggles that were often played out on social media, making him a complicated figure in the eyes of the fanbase over the last decade or so.

Through all of that, the wrestling world’s feelings about Jannetty have always circled back to the same place — respect for what he did inside the ropes. The Rockers were must-watch television. Jannetty was an elite bumper and a guy who could make anyone look like a million bucks on any given night.

Mansfield, who has stayed close with Jannetty over the years, was clearly emotional delivering the news. Mansfield himself is a veteran of the wrestling business with decades of history, so this wasn’t some outsider passing along secondhand information. He knows Jannetty personally and was speaking from genuine concern for his friend.

There’s been no official update from Jannetty himself or anyone in his immediate circle confirming further details about his condition or recovery. Wrestling fans have been sending well wishes across social media since the news broke.

Hopefully Marty is getting the care he needs and is surrounded by people looking out for him. Whatever complicated history exists around his name, the guy gave a lot to this business and deserves to be doing okay.
