Becky Lynch has a new opponent and it’s not who anyone expected.

WWE has officially added a women’s match to Saturday Night’s Main Event — Lynch defending her Women’s Intercontinental Championship prestige in a non-title bout against Sol Ruca. The match got set up on Raw this week when the two had a face-to-face in the ring that clearly wasn’t going to end with a handshake.

Sol Ruca is still fresh off her main roster call-up, but WWE is already throwing her in there with one of the biggest names in the company. That’s a statement in itself.

Ruca made serious noise in NXT before getting called up, known for her insane athleticism and the Sol Snatcher — one of the most visually impressive finishers on the roster right now. She doesn’t move like anyone else on the women’s division, and that’s exactly the kind of thing that gets you fast-tracked into high-profile spots.

Becky Lynch, meanwhile, has been one of the most consistent top-tier performers WWE has had over the last several years. She came back from her second maternity leave and slid right back into title contention like she never left. Winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship gave her program fresh legs, and now she’s being used to give newer talent a big moment on a major platform.

Saturday Night’s Main Event is not a throwaway show. WWE has been using it to deliver genuine marquee matchups, and putting Ruca on that card tells you the company sees real upside in her. A loss here doesn’t hurt her if she looks good — and given her physical gifts, looking good against Becky Lynch is absolutely within reach.

The non-title stipulation keeps the championship picture clean while still giving this match real stakes. Ruca doesn’t need the belt to make an impression. She just needs to show up and perform on the biggest stage she’s been on since debuting on the main roster.

Fan reaction online has been mostly positive, with a lot of people excited to see what Ruca can do with the extra spotlight. There’s always some skepticism when a newcomer gets a quick push, but Ruca’s toolkit is hard to argue with. She’s got the look, the athleticism, and enough buzz that WWE clearly feels comfortable accelerating her timeline.

Becky is the perfect opponent for this moment too. She knows how to structure a match and she’ll make sure Ruca comes out of this looking like a star even in defeat — if that’s how it goes.

Saturday Night’s Main Event just got more interesting. Keep an eye on how much time this match gets and how the crowd responds to Ruca. That’ll tell you a lot about where WWE plans to take her next.
