Brock Lesnar is back, and he made sure everybody felt it.
At the end of hour two on this week’s Raw, Oba Femi came out to do his usual open challenge. The entrance barely finished before Lesnar came from behind and put Femi on the mat — fast and violent, no warning, no buildup.
Lesnar unloaded four German suplexes on Femi and closed it out with an F-5, leaving the NXT North American Champion laid out in the middle of the ring. Classic Brock. No music intro pop, no promo, just damage.
Then Paul Heyman got on the mic and made it official — Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi at WWE Clash in Italy.
This is a big moment for Femi. He’s been one of the most protected acts in WWE over the last year. The guy has looked physically imposing and largely untouchable on both NXT and the main roster. Putting him in a program with Lesnar is a massive co-sign, even if the introduction was a beatdown.
Lesnar’s return has been one of the more uncertain situations in WWE for a while now. He’s been largely off TV since WrestleMania 40, and his name has been tied to legal proceedings connected to the Vince McMahon federal indictment. WWE had kept distance, but this appearance signals the company is comfortable putting him back on screen right now.
Heyman playing the architect here is perfect casting. He’s been aligned with Roman Reigns on screen, but Heyman’s history with Lesnar goes back decades. Whenever those two are in the same story, something is clicking backstage creatively. Having Heyman propose the match adds layers without needing a five-minute explanation.
Clash in Italy is shaping up as a significant international premium live event for WWE, and Lesnar vs. Femi gives it real main event energy. WWE has been leaning into these overseas events as more than just house show upgrades — they want marquee matches on international soil, and a Lesnar return bout fits that mold perfectly.
For Femi, the question now is how he responds. Getting ambushed on your way to an open challenge is one thing. How WWE books his path to Italy will tell us a lot about how seriously they’re taking his singles push. If he gets built up strong in the coming weeks, this could be a career-defining program. If he just absorbs more punishment until the match, that’s a different story entirely.
Brock Lesnar matches always carry stakes just by existing. He doesn’t work a full schedule, so every appearance means something. Dropping him onto Oba Femi — a guy with legitimate upside and a frame that matches Lesnar’s intensity — is one of the smarter pairings WWE could have made for his return.
Raw delivered a moment Monday night. Now we wait and see if the weeks leading into Italy can hold the heat.
