Roman Reigns showed up on Raw this week and he was not in a good mood. He found Adam Pearce almost immediately and made it clear he was going to the ring to call out Jacob Fatu.
Reigns never got the chance to even finish his moment. Fatu’s music hit and the whole thing escalated fast.
The match is now official. Jacob Fatu vs. Roman Reigns in a Tribal Combat match at WWE Clash in Italy.
Tribal Combat is the stipulation that puts Samoan rules in play. No disqualifications, no countouts, weapons are fair game, and the match only ends by pinfall, submission, or throwing your opponent over the top rope to the floor. It’s built for brutality and both of these guys are absolutely the right people to be in it.
This is the feud that’s been building since Fatu aligned with Solo Sikoa and the Bloodline faction turned on Reigns. Fatu was one of the most terrifying additions to that group, and the way WWE has protected him since his main roster debut has been impressive. He hits like a truck, moves like someone half his size, and has genuine star presence every single time he steps through the curtain.
Reigns, obviously, is Reigns. The Tribal Chief. The guy who carried WWE on his back for years during the pandemic era and built the most dominant championship run in modern wrestling history. He’s been in Tribal Combat before, most notably against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber 2023, a match that genuinely delivered and helped cement Zayn as a top guy in the process.
The difference here is Fatu isn’t playing the beloved underdog role. He’s a monster. This isn’t a sympathy match, it’s a collision between two guys with real bloodline ties to the Anoa’i family and a legitimate reason to want to destroy each other.
WWE Clash in Italy is shaping up to be a big deal. Putting a Tribal Combat match on a premium live event in Europe gives the show an instant main event feel, and this one has the potential to be violent in all the best ways.
Fatu has been on an absolute tear since debuting. His matches have been physical, his character work has been consistent, and crowds are fully buying in. A win over Roman Reigns, even in a loss scenario where Reigns looks strong, does massive things for his ceiling going forward.
For Reigns, this is about reclaiming something. The Bloodline story has shifted power dynamics multiple times, and right now Fatu is positioned as one of the most dangerous people in that entire world. Reigns needs a statement win, and Tribal Combat is exactly the environment where he’s made those statements before.
Watch how the build goes over the next few weeks. If WWE gives this the time and the segments it deserves, Clash in Italy could have one of the most must-see matches of the summer on its hands.
