Federal Judge Keeps Ring Boy Lawsuit Alive Against WWE and the McMahons

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING – SEXUAL ABUSE

A federal judge has refused to throw out the ring boy lawsuit targeting WWE, TKO, Vince McMahon, and Linda McMahon. U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar rejected the defendants’ argument that the Maryland law used to bring the case is unconstitutional, meaning this lawsuit is not going away anytime soon.

This ruling is a significant blow to the McMahon legal team and signals that the case has real staying power — Vince McMahon and WWE could be facing an extremely public, extremely damaging trial that no amount of corporate rebranding can bury.

The lawsuit was filed under a Maryland law designed to give survivors of childhood sexual abuse a legal path forward even when incidents occurred decades ago. The defense tried to get the entire case wiped out at the dismissal stage by challenging the constitutionality of that law itself. Judge Bredar was not convinced and let the case move forward.

For context, ring boys were young males who worked ringside at WWE events during the 1980s and into the 1990s. Their duties included tasks like setting up and breaking down the ring, retrieving items from ringside, and other behind-the-scenes work. Allegations of sexual abuse involving WWE personnel and ring boys have existed in various forms for decades, with some of the earliest public accusations surfacing in the early 1990s during a broader scandal that briefly put WWE under serious scrutiny.

This specific lawsuit is among the cases that re-emerged as survivors sought legal recourse under expanded statutes of limitations that some states have enacted in recent years to address historical childhood sexual abuse. Maryland’s version of that type of law is exactly what the defendants were trying to get thrown out before the case could go any further.

WWE and TKO are named alongside both Vince and Linda McMahon, which means the current corporate structure under TKO Group Holdings is still legally tied to conduct allegedly carried out under the old WWE regime. That is a detail that matters a lot when you consider how aggressively TKO and WWE have tried to move past the Vince McMahon era following his resignation in 2023 amid separate sexual misconduct allegations brought by former WWE employee Janel Grant.

Linda McMahon’s inclusion is also notable given her current political profile as a cabinet member serving in the Trump administration. A prolonged, high-profile federal lawsuit involving sexual abuse allegations is not a headline any politician wants attached to their name.

Vince McMahon has denied wrongdoing in multiple legal matters involving him. WWE and TKO have not made detailed public statements on the specifics of this particular ruling.

With dismissal off the table, both sides now continue through the litigation process. That means discovery, depositions, and eventually either a settlement or a trial. None of those options are comfortable for WWE or the McMahons. The legal fight is just getting started and the pressure is only going to build from here.
